LEXINGTON, Ga. –Oglethorpe County Board of Education voted on and approved calendar option one for the 2017-2018 academic school year. Under this calendar, classes start August 4th and end May 22nd. Fall break is October 9th and 10th with a student-teacher holiday listed as February 19th. There is also a professional learning day on March 12th. This option was most similar to the current academic calendar. A survey was sent out to parents that offered three different options that would affect the Oglethorpe County School System calendar. Here are the dates and different changes that were proposed:

Option #1:

Classes begin Friday, August 4th, 2017.

Fall break is on October 9th and 10th.

February student-teacher holiday is on the 19th of the month.

A professional learning day, where students would have no class is March 12th.

Classes would end Tuesday, May 22nd.

Option #2:

Classes begin Wednesday, August 2nd, 2017.

Fall break is on October 5th and 6th.

February student-teacher holiday is on the 19th of the month.

A professional learning day, where students would have no class is March 9th.

Classes would end Friday, May 18th.

Option #3:

Classes begin Wednesday, August 2nd, 2017.

Fall break is on October 5th and 6h.

Student-teacher holiday lasts a full week from February 19th to 23rd.

A professional learning day, where students would have no class is March 16th.

Classes would end Thursday, May 24nd.

ALL options include:

Labor Day Holiday on September 4, 2017.

A full week off for Thanksgiving on November 20-24.

Winter break lasting from December 18-2.

Classes starts January 3rd, 2018.

Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday on February 19.

Spring break vacation on April 2-6.

The CURRENT 2016-2017 academic calendar:

Classes began Friday, August 5th, 2017.

Fall break was on October 10th and 11th.

February student-teacher holiday is on the 20th of the month.

A professional learning day, where students would have no class is March 10th.

Classes end Friday, May 19th.

The deadline for the survey was February 3rd at noon. The Oglethorpe County Board of Education said the new 2017-2018 academic calendar would be available by next week.
